Game Information
Mumukshu is designed to be a "life simulation game based on Indian civilisation, culture & way of life".
Players don't just move pieces on a board; they navigate the complexities of life, making choices that have
tangible consequences within the game's framework. The ultimate goal is Moksha, but this
pursuit is not about renouncing the world prematurely. "The ultimate goal is moksha, not by renouncing the world
prematurely but by fulfilling every duty of yours, fulfilling your chosen dharma accomplishing arthic (material
well-being) & kamic (desires) in a dharmic righteous fashion. Basically a balanced life where you accomplish all
4 purusharthas Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha.
What’s a balanced life? It’s a pretty loaded term but our
shastras & life of our ancestors give us a solid example. The aim in the game is to live an ideal Grihasti
jeevan, how do we define it? By a proper balance of 4 major aspects (1) Personal goals. (2) Familial
responsibilities & other duties (3) Spiritual journey (4) Contribution towards society & your civilisation
!
A proper balance of all these help you succeed in life & in Mumukshu."
A Tool for Cultural Reawakening
Mumukshu has resonated deeply with play-testers across various age groups. For children, it begins as fun but leaves a very deep impact by subconsciously registering civilizational and cultural knowledge. Young adults find it offers a very unique perspective to contemplate life's challenges, while older players can relate with every aspect of the game.
The spark for Mumukshu came from a realisation that lectures and discussions on history and culture often had a limited and temporary impact. Sahil drew inspiration from traditional Indian forms of entertainment, which were not just for entertainment but also a means of spiritual elevation & something that’s a value addition in life ! And the enduring snakes & ladders... "Shadripus" which originally represented the interplay of good deeds and vices.
The Path Ahead
Currently in its final testing stages, Mumukshu is slated for launch around July 2026. Initially, it will be available directly through the website or WhatsApp to ensure quality and avoid counterfeit products. There are plans for digital & VR version as well. An accompanying trivia book is also a part of the board game package that expands of the cultural & historical elements within the game !
Sahil hopes Mumukshu will reach the masses, envisioning it as "the new Snakes and Ladders" – a game that not only entertains but also elevates thinking and strategic capacity. Beyond homes, Mumukshu can be a valuable tool in schools to make learning about heritage interactive, and even in corporate offices for team-building exercises that touch upon ethical decision-making through a unique cultural lens.
